Educational Initiatives
If
Ireland is to maintain its pre-eminent position in Europe in software
and technological development an increased level of use of the Internet
needs to be engendered amongst Irish students. The
School & University Internet Awards were established by Novara
in 1999 with the aim of advancing Ireland's position as a leading information
technology society by widening the use of the Internet amongst the youth
of Ireland.
Based in Dublin, Ireland, the Awards draw their support from top Internet
industry practitioners and other opinion leaders. Former judges of the
SUIA awards include the leaders in the Irish technology industry such
as entrepreneur Denis O'Brien, Chris Horn, Chief Executive of Iona Technologies,
Fran Rooney, Chief Executive, Baltimore and William Burgess of IBM.
The objectives of the School & University
Internet Awards include:
- To further the positive use of the internet in education.
- Encouraging increased and equal access to the Internet, especially
in disadvantaged areas.
- To encourage Internet based initiatives in the field of education.
